Your well-being | 9

“This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them: “The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face towards you and give you peace.” Numbers 6.23-26

Peace can mean different things to different people: a fragile truce, the absence of a storm or a particular feeling. When the Old Testament speaks of peace, the word ‘shalom’ carries with it a sense of well-being in every aspect of our lives.

One title that Isaiah gave to Jesus was ‘Prince of Peace’, and Jesus’ ministry reveals the nature of this peace that he came to bring. It is about healing – the healing of our relationship with God, with other people and the healing of our bodies and minds.

When peace is pronounced as a blessing, it is a statement of God’s intention and desire for us, that we might receive what Jesus came to bring just as surely as if we were standing before him ourselves.

As you sit quietly for a few moments, let the words of Jesus resonate deep within you: “My peace I leave with you.” They are his words to you today.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
